Taiwan has officially become an "aging society" defined by the World Health Organization in 2017. The problem of aging has become a heavy burden on society, especially neurodegenerative diseases. Nowadays, all countries in the world are committed to exploring the pathological mechanism of neurodegeneration in order to develop prevention and treatment strategies, and the collection and research of brain tissue is an urgent task. Our school cooperated with the National Biobank Consortium of Taiwan, operated by the National Institute of Health, in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations on human biobank, and established " Taiwan Brain Bank at National Taiwan University ". Our bank collects the brain tissue of our society and provides the needs for domestic research on the pathological mechanism of neurodegeneration.
The brain bank collects nerve tissue samples from normal people and patients with diseases and provides scholars, experts, or biotechnologists for research. There are excellent physicians and scientists, well-developed medical systems, rich health insurance, and biological databases in Taiwan society, all of which are the advantages of advanced research on neurodegenerative diseases. Only a deep understanding of the pathogenic principles of neurological diseases can promote the development of neurological disease treatment strategies, provide accurate and effective treatment plans, and improve the quality of health care for the elderly population and neurological disease patients. The sustainable operation of Taiwan Brain Bank is an important cornerstone to achieve this goal.
