Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH) has played a critical role in promoting medical research and advancing patient care since the establishment of its human biobank ("the Biobank") in 2014. The Biobank contains a comprehensive collection of specimens from 32 major diseases and healthy individuals, including paired tumor and normal tissues, serum, plasma, blood cells, and other specimens. CGMH researchers can access these specimens at no cost, while researchers from other institutions can apply to use them through research collaborations with CGMH physicians or with a referral from the National Biobank Consortium of Taiwan.
The Biobank's vast collection of biological samples provides an invaluable resource for researchers to explore and discover new insights into various diseases, facilitating the development of effective treatments. Ethical standards and guidelines are strictly followed in the collection and use of specimens, including protection of privacy and confidentiality. All researchers must obtain ethical approval and comply with the Biobank's regulations, ensuring the highest level of scientific integrity.
