Cathay General Hospital has established a human biobank and an ethics committee for the human biodatabase in accordance with the "Human Biodatabase Management Regulations", to ensure that the operation of biobank complies with the "Human Biodatabase Management Regulations" and related regulations.
Cathay General Hospital Biobank was approved by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2014, and passed the on-site inspection by the Medical Policy Committee in September 2019. Standard operating procedures for the entry and the utilization of relevant specimens are well-established. The operating procedures for the preservation of biological specimens are stipulated to ensure the proper collection, storage and use of biological specimens. The biological specimens, data and information are all stored in exclusive and independent spaces. The biobank is well designed with monitoring equipments. Currently, the samples stored in biobank are mainly fresh tissue samples.
Cathay General Hospital Biobank is set up in Sijhih Clinical Research Center, which can facilitate the research and utilization of biological specimens. The related pathological and experimental services are being constructed. The biobank aims at a long-term development with establishment of a comprehensive biological database that meets the needs of clinical research.
