The Biobank of Shin-Kong WHS Memorial Hospital was established in 2019 with the approval of the Ministry of Health and Welfare under the “Regulations on the Management of Human Biobank”. The purpose is to provide a stable and reliable source of human biological samples with a comprehensive clinical data system for medical research by researchers in Taiwan and our hospital. In addition to promoting the development of advanced medicine, it is hoped that future research results can help to develop new diagnoses and novel treatments and to provide mechanisms of pathogenesis and preventive measures of human diseases. The goal is to improve human health and well-being. The SKH-Biobank mainly collects bio-specimens including cancer, chronic disease, rare diseases of women and children, and rare congenital diseases. In addition to the biomedical and bio-information supervisors, full-time medical examiners are employed to take charge of the collection, processing, and preservation of bio-specimens. The review of the application and the use of the specimens are under the two-way control of The Institutional Review Board (IRB) and The Ethical Governing Committee of Biobank (EGC) in our hospital. The SKH-biobank provides a source of legit specimens that protects the privacy of patients. The bio-specimens with good quality are provided to the researchers in Taiwan.
